As a part of the Morning Lazziness series about empowering women who are encouraging and doing incredible things with their ideas in society, I had the pleasure of interviewing Cammie Jones.

She is the CEO of J. Jones Consulting, LLC which was launched during the pandemic and provides support to colleges/universities and nonprofits in establishing and advancing equitable civic and community engagement strategies that result in mutually reciprocal involvement and a long-term impact on communities and organizations. J. Jones Consulting offers custom-designed solutions, strategic planning, community engagement, diversity education, and tailored training to ensure institutions meet the needs of their communities.

4 things you need to know about Juneteenth, a new federal holiday

“We should acknowledge Juneteenth as American history, not just Black history,” says Cammie Jones, executive director of community engagement and diversity, equity, and inclusion at Barnard College. But, the Texas native goes on to say that recognizing the day is not enough.

“The holiday has become a point in the year where people are acknowledging in some capacity what has happened in our country. But, I hope it doesn’t stop or start on Juneteenth. It should continue. We should continue to figure out what liberation can look like. It shouldn’t stop or start at this day,” she says.

Effort educates about the signs of relationship abuse

“We provide workshops on dating violence in all 13 Dutchess County school districts that give teens tools to understand red flags in unhealthy relationships,” says Grace Smith House prevention coordinator Cammie Jones. “Many teens use social media, text messages, and mobile apps to communicate with their partners or people they’re dating or hooking up with, and a lot of red flags happen on these digital channels.”

Marist Serves community through semester of service

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Marist men’s lacrosse team won the 2013 Red Fox Challenge for its participation in community service this semester. The Red Foxes joined in events for several local charities to support causes within the Hudson Valley as well as outside the local community. Juniors Nick Struble and Patrick Eaker served as the team’s Red Fox Challenge liasons and spearheaded many of the community service initiatives.

“We would like to thank Brother Frank Kelly our Faculty Mentor, Cammie Jones our team’s athletic academic advisor, and our coaching staff for all of their support in organizing the many events this fall,” said Eaker.
